My name is Karina Martinez-Villanueva. I am 17 years old and currently finishing up my senior year at Loy Norrix High School in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

As a first generation college student my plan after high school is to attend Spring Arbor University this fall with a major in accounting.

Outside of school I also participate in many church and community based activities.

I joined DECA this year and was surprised to make it to the state competition with my partner Rebekah He! DECA has been the highlight of my school year, I'm so glad to have met everyone and gotten to participate in this year's Loy Norrix chapter!

I have participated in Kalamazoo's TRIO Upward Bound program since I was a rising freshman 'till now. It has given me many friendships and opportunities to travel and explore new places I never thought about having.

My mom is our church's gospel leader, so I have translated countless meetings since the beginning of our partnership with JLK in 2016. I have participated with a team of church people cleaning streets and distributing food and drinks to those in need.

Due to my mom's ministry, we paired up with Urban Alliance from 2018-2022, working side by side with Pastor and current City Commissioner, Esteven Juarez. I translated various meetings and also helped plan many local community activities while working with them.
